Sir Walter Raleigh

Who was Sir Walter Raleigh?

Walter Raleigh or later Sir Walter Raleigh was a main character in Elizabeth the Golden Age movie. The role of Sir Walter Raleigh was played by Clive Owen. In the movie Elizabeth the Golden Age, Queen Elizabeth I met Walter Raleigh on the street when Walter Raleigh threw his coat on the ground infront of Queen Elizabeth because he claimed there was a puddle in the way of the Queen. Sir Walter Raleigh then tried to gain Queen Elizabeth 1 's favor by offering her gifts from the New World which he named "Virginia" after her, the Virgin Queen. He brought some American Indian natives with him with the gifts which were Patata, Tabacco, Gold (which he stole from a Spanish ship). The Spanish called him a pirate since he stole from them. Walter Raleigh claimed that Philip King of Spain was no friend of England and the more gold he stole from him the safer Queen Elizabeth would be.

How Sir Walter Raleigh charmed Queen Elizabeth I and Bess

Sir Walter Raleigh was a man whose world was far beyond the Queen 's court making him an interesting and refreshing man for both Queen Elizabeth I herself and her move favorable lady in waiting (Lady of the Privy Chamber), Bess or Elizabeth Throckmorton (also Elizabeth Throgmorton). Queen Elizabeth I favored Bess more than any other ladies in waiting and shared all her feelings with her. Queen Elizabeth I asked Bess to talk to Sir Walter Raleigh.

Soon, Sir Walter Raleigh was entertaining the Queen and her ladies in waiting with his adventurous stories of the New World. He often told the about his ship and journeys around the world. The Queen was intrigues because he was exactly the kind of person she had hoped to meet. Bess also liked him. With Bess' advice and help, Walter Raleigh soon gained the Queen's favor. The story of the adventure to the New World really intrigued the Queen. Mr. Walter Raleigh said that the Queen spoke like a true explorer.

With Bess' suggestion, Mr. Walter Raleigh paid the Queen the most honest compliment he could give. He also told her that he liked her for who she was. Soon Queen Elizabeth I was spending much time with Walter Raleigh. What did Walter Raleigh want from Queen Elizabeth I? All he asked the Queen was to award him with his mission and let him go to the New World again.

While the Queen spent so much time with Walter Raleigh, Sir Francis Walsingham did not like what he saw but did not say anything.
